GRASPING, 2023
Grasping emerged as an initial experiment to establish a working collaboration between the two artists’ mediums; oil painting and piano composition. For over a year, Laura and Alisha collaborated digitally, sharing creative processes and responding intuitively to each other’s work, forming a continuous dialogue of sound and image. This dialogue continued until two final pieces naturally emerged.
PROCESS
Grasping (for solo piano) began as an improvisation in response to a small oil on canvas study sent to Alisha by Laura (below). Due to the physical distance between the two artists (Sydney to Gippsland, Victoria) this study sought to evoke a conceptual landscape, rather than a true destination. This landscape explores how the imprints of human activity form part of a place beyond that which is seen.
