Grasping (for solo piano) began as an improvisation in response to a small oil on canvas study sent to Alisha by Laura (below). Due to the physical distance between the two artists (Sydney to Gippsland, Victoria) this study sought to evoke the memory of a landscape, rather than a true destination. Initial rumination centred around what landscapes absorb over time and how the imprints of human activity form part of a place.
